I am writing to you in regards to the recent establishment of my foundation. The Dan Unger Foundation is a registered non for profit entity developed to provide financial, professional and emotional support for all levels within the entertainment industry.
The Dan Unger Foundation was a concept that was inspired by my own struggle with serious health issues which have resulted in loss of income, the loss of my home and everything I valued in my life. Whilst deathly ill in hospital, I was inspired to provide a means to assist my fellow colleagues within the entertainment industry, should similar events unfold for them.
Daily I am affected by the symptoms of Gadolinium Poisoning contracted after receiving a MRI contrast dye. My family and I reside with a friend and manage the best we can on what little income we can generate.
Despite being a long time member of the Screen Actors Guild and having actively donated money to the guild's fund in the past, they would not provide any assistance in my time of need. This was primarily because they considered my income from acting work in the present was insignificant as compared to what I had earned in the past. This made me wonder how many other members of the entertainment industry (and compliments to the industry) are in, or have been in, the exact same circumstance. I, therefore, became even more determined to establish a foundation to provide the assistance so sadly deficient when most needed.
The Dan Unger Foundation was established with the last of the money I had to my name. I do not ever want to see my colleagues experience what I have on a financial, emotional and social level. My dream of helping others within the entertainment industry has maintained my determination to see it come into fruition.
The Dan Unger Foundation has an online presence consisting of a splash page and a social networking platform. The splash page is in place to provide information regarding the foundation and to manage memberships, donations and sponsorships. All payments are made using PayPal and once payments are successful clients are redirected to the social networking platform.
The social networking platform is entirely private, as we highly value the privacy of all potential members, and have strong policies and terms of use in place to maintain this. The social networking platform is exclusively focused on the entertainment industry and provides members with the opportunity to network, update skills, contact a broader base of industry assistance, and gain valuable resume knowledge. When coming out of an illness, being out of work, and any financial trauma this connection is vital to the self esteem and ability to reconnect with the entertainment industry.
I envision the foundation providing financial assistance with each case being handled individually, and assistance tailored to each individuals specific needs. This will provide assistance where it is most needed in the form that is accessible to each client/member.
I am hoping you will consider assisting to promote The Dan Unger Foundation via an interview on your show, sponsorship, or assisting us in obtaining members. I would be extremely grateful for any additional assistance that you are willing to provide in order to support the foundation.
